CABINET COMMITTEE REVIEWS MONSOON/FLOOD ARRANGEMENTS

LAHORE:(UNN)Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed has directed all the district administrations to remain fully vigilant and alert in the wake of any possible flood like situation during the Monsoon season.

Chairing the 5th Cabinet Committee Meeting on Monsoon/Flood Arrangements 2018 at Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed reviewed pre-flood arrangements by different provincial departments to combat any possible threat of flood. During the meeting, preemptive measures for possible floods were discussed at length.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehmood-ur-Rasheed directed all the concerned authorities to take necessary precautionary measures in low-lying/vulnerable areas to avoid any loss of life/damage to public as well as private property.

While talking on the occasion, Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Mian Khalid Mehmood directed all the relevant authorities to ensure all precautionary measures and complete all the necessary arrangements to deal with any untoward situation. He further said that natural calamities like floods can be dealt with in a better manner through planning and coordinated efforts, adding that departments should focus on building capacities to deal with disasters.

While briefing the meeting, Director Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Dr Khurram Shehzad said that PDMA Punjab has issued instructions to all the concerned departments and district administrations to complete pre-flood arrangements.

Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz briefed the meeting about the weather situation and said that no upstream flood is expected in the days to come. Likewise, no significant rainfall is expected in the next five days.

Secretaries of different provincial departments and high officials of concerned departments attended the meeting in Civil Secretariat, while Deputy Commissioners and high officials of concerned departments participated in the meeting from their respective districts through video link.
